The Garden Journal Book Review

4 min read

Do you keep a garden journal for monitoring your plants? While I have had indoor plants and a garden for many years, I had never considered monitoring them or keeping a journal with information about them. I didn’t really consider it until I started sharing pieces of my plants with friends and family that I realized I might need to be more organized with my information. It isn’t that I don’t have the information; it was available in the form of invoices, seed packages, and emails that I have kept for ages, making it challenging when I get questions about clippings or need to look up the name of a specific plant (especially some of my succulents when it comes to trading with others).

Knowing I had to start getting more organized, this seemed the perfect time to assemble a plant journal. Being someone who loves pretty, well-laid-out planners and journals, I was excited when I had the opportunity to review a new book – The Garden Journal: A 5-Year Record of Your Home Garden, by Linda Vater. Once my new complimentary journal arrived, I couldn’t wait to share this book with everyone!

Our Thoughts:

What do we think of this new gardening journal? Personally, I think The Garden Journal: A 5-Year Record of Your Home Garden is everything anyone would never need from a gardening journal. It is well organized, beautiful, and designed to last with its sturdy hardcover. Each section has plenty of room to write and allows you to document everything with your plants in an easy-to-manage format, perfect for any gardener. Unlike other journals I have seen, it doesn’t have exact dates, meaning it doesn’t matter what year you start or if you somehow have to skip a year (life happens). I also love the inventory section, allowing you to keep track of your seeds and plants with ease year after year. Honestly, I consider this gardening journal a must for any plant lover!
