This easy French Green Clay Bath Soak with Oatmeal and Rosemary is a relaxing way to end your day. With detoxing benefits and skin soothing ingredients, the DIY bath soak recipe is not only pretty to make as a gift, it is beneficial to your skin care routine, as well.
Ingredients for a Clay Milk Bath
French Green Clay
Any clay, such as bentonite clay, rose clay or kaolin clay, will draw out impurities from the skin and work as a detoxifying agent. French Green Clay is one of our favorites because of the muted sage green color which makes the bath soak look pretty.
We use French green clay in many DIY beauty recipes because it is so great for the skin! See our DIY Lemongrass Bath Bombs for another way to use this ingredient.
Powdered Milk
Milk is soothing and calming to the skin. Most milk baths use a powdered version of a milk, which then rehydrates as you add it to your bath.
We used a dry goat’s milk in our recipe, however you could use a regular powdered milk or a powdered coconut milk for a vegan version.
This milk bath is just one of our DIY recipes that uses goat’s milk. See our floral oatmeal milk bath soak for another way to use this ingredient.
Oats
Oatmeal has long been known as a skin-soothing ingredient. You will find oats in many sensitive skin beauty products.
Our exfoliating cinnamon oatmeal soaps and layered oatmeal soaps are more recipes that use the ingredient.
Epsom Salts
Epsom salts can be found in almost every bath soak recipe because they are fantastic for detoxing and relaxation. The magnesium in Epsom salts is especially beneficial for your skin.
Rosemary
This herb provides anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial benefits and can improve hydration of your skin.
See our DIY Rosemary Salve and Lemon Poppyseed Soap with Rosemary for more ways to use the herbaceous plant in your skin care routine.
Sweet Almond Oil
A little bit of nourishing oil is great for your skin. While we used sweet almond oil, you could use any moisturizing oil such as avocado, almond or olive oil.

Can I Use Another Type of Clay?
Yes, you can use any type of clay in this beauty recipe. The French green clay gives an earthy look to this bath soak, but you could use rose clay for a pretty pink bath soak. (This pink rose clay is sourced in the United States.)
Bentonite Clay is and Kaolin Clay are muted shades of brown or white and won’t be as pretty is you are making these as gifts, but they will work just as well! (This kaolin clay is sourced in the state of Georgia by a veteran-owned company.)
Can I Use Another Type of Milk?
Yes, you can use any type of powdered milk for this detox milk bath.
Dried goat’s milk is a great alternative for anyone avoiding traditional cow’s milk, but let’s face it, it is really expensive!
Powdered cow’s milk is another great alternative. My favorite brand is from Sam’s Club and is a great value.
For a vegan milk bath, dried coconut milk powder is an alternative.
How Long Should I Soak in a Clay Detox Bath?
Soak in the bathwater at least 20 minutes.
How Should I Store This French Green Clay Bath Soak?
Store the powder in an air-tight container. Place the container in a cool, dry place. You don’t want to place the powder in the sun because the sunlight can start to break down the ingredients and oils.
