What Are Dip Powder Nails?

Dip powder nails — also known as Signature Nail Systems or SNS, which is the company that invented dip powder — are named after the technique used to create them: by dipping your nails into your colored dip powder.

The dip powder is similar to acrylic powder. They are both resin-based, though dip powder is more finely ground and has a slightly different chemical composition.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Dip Powder Nails Better Than Gel Manicures?

Dip powder nails are generally better than gel nails since they’re more durable and tend to have a firmer grip on your natural nails.

Plus, opting for this nail trend won’t require you to constantly cure your mani using UV light, which may emit ultraviolet radiation known to damage cells and increase your risk for cancer

Moreover, dip powder nails tend to last longer, on average, at up to four weeks. In contrast, gel nails only have a lifespan of around two to three weeks.

How Do You Remove Dip Nails?

Here’s a fast and easy way to remove your dip nail manicure at home.

  1. Start by filing the nail surface. The goal is to remove the entire top coat so the acetone can penetrate better into the product adhering to your nails.
  2. Once done, pour warm water in a large bowl. Place a paper towel inside a plastic bag and coat the paper towel in acetone.
  3. Place your fingers in the plastic bag against the paper towel and leave for five to ten minutes. The warmth from the water will help the acetone work faster.
  4. Check nails regularly until the product is removed.
  5. Once removed, buff your nails and add a cuticle coat like Cliganic Organic Jojoba Oil to ensure nail health.

Here’s a quick video to show you the process:
