Goodbye Winter Olympics, Little Passports Will Carry the Torch

As we bid farewell to the Winter Olympics in Sochi, it’s a good time to continue the history lesson with our kids. My oldest (almost 11 yrs old) is pretty aware of the World and our own country but my 5 year old is just starting to figure out the US. We do quite a bit of traveling as a family but I’m not sure she really understands how big the US is (not to mention the World) yet.

Little Passports (affiliate link) is a subscription box that brings the US and the World into your home each month and is geared for little minds. You can select the USA or World edition package depending on your child’s interests. We started with the USA Edition which is ideal for kids ages 7-12 years old.

Inside your first month’s package is a Discovery Kit featuring a letter from Sam and Sofia (your guests on your trip around the US), a field guide, scratch book, US wall map, disposable camera and a photo scavenger hunt. Each subsequent month you’ll receive a State adventure kit with 2 new states each month. The State adventure kit includes a 32-page activity journal featuring 2 states, stickers, pop-out models, postcards, and online activities. The monthly subscription plans range from $10.95/mo to $13.95/mo depending on if you pay month-by-month or pay by the year.

We received both the Discovery Kit and State Adventure Kit at the same time to review Little Passports and I am completely impressed with the amount of goodies inside each package. My kids have played with the kit for several days and still haven’t completed all the projects. I think there are enough activities in each package to keep them entertained for the month.

My littlest decided to start with the photo scavenger hunt using the disposable camera. It’s funny trying to teach a 5 year old how to use a camera that doesn’t have a viewfinder on the back to see your picture right away. It will be even funnier to take it to the store to have it developed. We still have a few more items to find on our scavenger hunt and I’m hoping her older brother will help her finish the project.

The wall map was really cute too. We don’t have a big map or globe in the house so it was neat to show her all the places she’s been to already. The only place she really remembers is going to Utah last March for Spring Break. The activities in the journal are a little advanced for her but perfect for the recommended age (7-12 yrs old). Her brother has been helping her out.

I love that the kits continue to build off one another until you have collected all 52 states. This would be a really fun gift for a classroom, home school, or any child who is interested in history and travel. I would really love to see how the World Edition compares with it’s adorable little travel suitcase and passport. The World Edition is actually geared for the younger children too (ages 5-10).
