2 min read

An all natural homemade body scrub can remove old skin cells and reveal a healthier glow instantly. It is important to use only non-toxic ingredients, though, so that you don’t do more harm than good.

Which is why our DIY Activated Charcoal Scrub is the perfect exfoliator for face and body.

Even better? It costs just pennies to make!

Made with only three ingredients, this simple body scrub recipe can be used on your arms, chest, neck, legs, back and even your face.

Activated charcoal is known for drawing out impurities which makes this detoxing body scrub great for acne.

Mix all of the ingredients together until smooth and the consistency that you prefer.

Activated Charcoal Scrub Step 4

You can make the homemade scrub more dry, which feels more exfoliating, or make it a little more moist, which can be more gentle on the skin.

Activated Charcoal Scrub Step 8

Transfer the DIY scrub into airtight jars.

If you will not be using this activated charcoal scrub immediately, you can store it in the fridge for about 1 month. You can even store it in the freezer for 6 months.

Important Note: Be very careful if using this in the shower or on your feet as surfaces will be very slippery and there is a risk of falling.

Helpful Tips

  • Activated charcoal can stain, so be sure to rinse the area thoroughly after washing off the scrub.
  • Use the scrub at the beginning of your shower so that the charcoal can rinse off during bathing without wasting more water for rinsing.
  • It is wise to use a dark colored towel to dry off, just in case there is some charcoal residue on your skin.
  • Any carrier oil can be used in the DIY body scrub. We used either almond oil or coconut oil when we made it, but you could use jojoba oil, olive oil or avocado oil if you prefer.
